For the purposes of calculating a state's total population for representation in Congress and taxing, Article I, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution of 1787 declared that " three-fifths" of all other persons (slaves) would be added to the number of free persons.

Black history month for me is more than learning about my brothers and sisters who were taken/sold from my continent, more than understanding the sacrifices that were made for me to be free in this country today and more than one month worth of reflection. I am not only a whole human being, but a whole professional. I am Black, I am Proud, and I will continue to make History because I know what I am made of.
